According to the preliminary traffic impact assessment, the traffic volume on NLH will continue to increase with the phased completion of the development projects in North Lantau, creating significant traffic pressure. The traffic load is especially severe on the section between Sham Shui Kok and Sunny Bay, which indirectly limits the development potential of Lantau Island. As a result, the travel time to and from the urban areas and the Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong\u2013Zhuhai\u2013Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port increases. This will effectively enhance the road connectivity in North Lantau. The Master Plan proposes the exploration of developing a coastal cycle track and footpath along the North Lantau Recreation Corridor, as well as providing leisure and recreational facilities to promote healthy transport modes.
